This group is for beginning and intermediate meditators to learn and practice meditation in a supportive small group. Many people feel they “can’t” meditate, they give up quickly, or continue to try but find it very difficult and unpleasant, often plagued by thoughts of wondering why it’s so hard for them, and feeling stuck. In this group we will work with and examine these experiences in a gentle way. Often, self-judgment or “comparing mind” get in the way. We will learn to identify these self-limiting patterns and develop compassion for ourselves to support this learning process. Meditation can be helpful for reducing stress and anxiety, for developing emotional regulation, and for developing self-awareness, self-compassion, patience, and insight. As the practices of meditation and mindfulness become increasingly popular in our culture, many people are drawn to them, but many are also just as easily turned off if they find that it is more difficult than it seemed, or, unpleasant – when they imagined it to be the opposite.
About me: I have been practicing meditation for 20 years and have sat many week-long and longer retreats throughout these years. I have practiced in the Shambhala and Zen traditions, though have ultimately landed in the Vipassana tradition.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Also feel free to let me know if there is interest in other times – I will be leading other groups in the future.
